Frequently Asked Questions
  • Internships
    • Who is eligible?

Undergraduate seniors and graduate students are eligible for internships. Applicants will need to check the specific job posting to determine the exact requirements.

We are looking for applicants that demonstrate a commitment to helping under-served members of our communities and have a strong desire to find permanent work at Providence following their internship. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to relate well to individuals from varying backgrounds are valued.

    • What are the work hours?
Internships will take place during weekday business hours. Internships are no more than 40 hours per week and 8 hours per day. Time off will be considered, but not necessarily granted. Specific intern schedules will be worked out between the intern and their direct supervisor.
    • How do I apply?

Apply through the Providence Jobs site by searching for "internship." Due to COVID-19 we have postponed most undergraduate and graduate internship opportunities. Please check back regularly for updates on Summer 2023 opportunities.

Providence is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. Providence does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, disability, veteran, military status, religion, age, creed, national origin, sexual identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, genetic information, or any other basis prohibited by local, state or federal law.

    • Do I have to live in a certain area to be eligible?
If the internship is in person or hybrid, then you will need to live within working distance of the placement site. For remote internships, you will need to live within our Providence footprint (Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Montana, California, New Mexico, Texas).
    • What type of training will I receive as an intern?
All interns complete our new employee orientation, as well as department specific training. We have a weekly virtual call that all Providence interns are invited to attend to build a sense of community and learn from guest speakers. We also have a series of virtual professional development workshops taught by members of our ProvidenceReady team over the course of the internship. Workshop topics include Getting Started at Providence, How to Get a Job, Professional Workplace Behavior, Leadership Skills, and more. We provide opportunities to hear from guest speakers when possible and connect interns with informational interview opportunities. Providence also has training courses available for all employees on computer skills and professional development topics that interns are encouraged to explore.
    • How likely is it that I will be offered a job after my internship?
We are very focused on converting our interns to permanent employees (caregivers). You will have networking opportunities during your internship, as well as guidance and support in applying for permanent positions. We are looking for interns who are interested in working for Providence after completing an internship. However, we cannot guarantee employment following an internship.
    • What positions have interns been hired into after completing an internship?
Interns have been hired into a variety of permanent positions based on their education and skill level, including Patient Relations Representative, Patient Experience Specialist, Marketing Writer, Customer Service Specialist, Scheduler, Program Coordinator, Accounts Receivable Associate, Business Reporting Analyst, Data Analyst, Human Resources Associate, Human Resources Business Partner, Human Resources Strategic Partner Manager, Video Equipment Technician, and Health Equity Program Manager. While we cannot guarantee employment, our goal is to convert as many interns into permanent hires as possible!
    • What are remote internships like?
Remote internships are occasionally offered. Interns are expected to work from home on a Providence-provided laptop. There will be opportunities to attend virtual meetings and attend regular intern check ins and workshops. Interns are still expected to clock in/out remotely and work during regularly scheduled times. You should consider how well you work in a remote environment before applying for this type of opportunity.
