About Providence Swedish (Puget Sound)

Providence Swedish Ready connects current caregivers and career seekers of any age to health care careers through experiential learning and work experiences. Our innovative and award-winning program encourages career seekers to explore the many career opportunities that exist within health care and provides experiential opportunities such as paid internships, and more. Our mission is to enable career seekers to make well-informed career decisions and to delineate attainable pathways for career advancement within Providence Swedish.

According to the Bureau of labor statistics between 2019-2029, health care is predicted to be the fastest growing employer sector with anticipated 15% job growth. However, additional education can be gained as an integral part of a career pathway journey. Prov Swedish offers generous Tuition Assistance for Providence Swedish caregivers to accomplish educational goals as part of their career advancement.

For high school students, ProvidenceSwedishReady events can demonstrate relevancy to classroom learning and may be used to meet high school graduation requirements. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to partner with teachers, counselors, and schools to bring health career exploration to students.

Providence Swedish is an entry point into our campus bridging the pathways between education, financial assistance/scholarships, mentorship, and YOUR career goals. You will gain experience in a health care setting, have help to navigate schools and jobs, and have access to financial assistance/scholarships to help you with the cost of school and certifications.

Career Exploration is a lifelong journey. Whether you are in high school, college, or a current Providence Swedish Caregiver, it can feel like a particularly daunting and overwhelming task. Our goal is to provide accurate, realistic and insightful portraits of health care careers and the culture of Covenant. People gravitate to careers they know, see and experience. That is why it is imperative that we create connections between health care professionals and career seekers to accurately inform and guide them along their career pathway.

Providence Swedish encourages those interested in a job shadow to participate in our career exploration opportunities. These opportunities have been specifically designed to provide you with comprehensive career exploration information, as well as to provide the most up-to-date career information. The learning is experiential, so rather than just observing health care workers, career seekers can actually try stepping into the role by using medical equipment on mannequins under the guidance of our staff. Visit our "How to get Involved" area to view some of the different opportunities!

Career Exploration Focus Area

Career Highlights: Workshops led by Providence caregivers in on-site conference rooms for small groups of students (aimed at junior high and high school students) focusing on one specific health care career such as Nursing, PA, Medical Assistant etc. We strategically provide Career Highlights to showcase Providence’s hard to fill positions.

Surgical Viewings: Allow students to observe a surgery in real-time at a Providence Auditorium (designed for high school juniors/seniors who are enrolled in either a health occupations course or an advanced placement science class and their teachers or nursing/pre-med/other health career college students); types of surgeries include Ortho Watch, Chest Watch, Heart Watch and Brain Watch. The surgeon provides an overview of the surgery, their career and the aligned Providence Institute and various other health care providers that would typically be involved in the care of this type of patient share their careers and take questions. These events are broadcasted remotely to other Providence sights, allowing a reach of over 800 viewers.

Career Exploration: Includes providing "fast fact" sheets with information (education, salary, etc.) on different roles in health care & helps to provide career pathways.
